In the Upstream area, it should be stressed the intense and long-lasting partnership with PETROBRAS. This partnership was initiated with the development of oil activities in Campos Basin, through conversion and affreightment contracts for platform P-18, P-25, P-26, P-31, P-37, executed between 1991 and 1997, representing investments of nearly US$ 1.1 billion in Brazil.

In 1999, a consortium was formed together with ChevronTexaco, Petrobras, and Frade Japão Petróleo Ltda, of which last company Sojitz is shareholder, for the prospecting and development of oil and natural gas in BC-4 and Frade Field, in Campos Basin. And in 2000, a consortium with Petrobras was created for the financing of the expansion of oil production from the Albacora Field in Campos Basin.
